A child sees his world as a giant puzzle. He learns skills to put it together one piece at a time. Using reason and logic, he tries to fit the puzzle piece one way and then another way until persistence finally pays off.  The success of fitting each piece fuels his confidence. These skills pave the road to a lifelong self-confidence in piecing together the whole picture. Puzzle activities benefit children''s intellectual, emotional, and physical growth.

Puzzles compel children to focus on problem solving skills, which in turn strengthens their reasoning power and sense of process.  These skills convey to other areas of their education.  Puzzle activities bring together a thought process with an action process children will use to learn to read, write and solve math problems.

Emotional

Emotional advantages of puzzle activities include the sense of success and the satisfaction of the work process itself.  Children are encouraged to explore, make decisions, learn from mistakes, and try, try again to create successes.  Upon completion, they hold the finished puzzle with a sense of achievement.

Physical

Arranging puzzle pieces help children develop the fine muscles to make small movements such as writing.

Playing with puzzles alone builds a childís sense of independence, and playing with family or friends builds his sense of teamwork.  It is a wonderful activity for families or friends to enjoy together.  Puzzles have survived the test of time and are still thriving today as a classic because of the benefits they provide.
